李惠昌书画兼攻，在绘画中他自己更钟情于油画，我却更偏爱他的水墨。我之所以偏爱他的水墨，不仅因为精神指向更为独特，更因为他对相应语言的控制显出更突出才能。

1962年生于抚顺

1985进修于浙江美术学院国画系书法篆刻进修班。
1989毕业于浙江美术学院国画系专科
1993进修于中国美术家协会油画研修班
2003毕业于沈阳建筑大学本科
2003毕业于辽宁师范大学硕士研究生（同等学历证书）
现任教于抚顺师范高等专科学校美术系。中国美术家协会会员，中国书法家协会会员。
作为一个青年忧思者，李惠昌选择了他自己的精神取向——在空灵、通透、淡泊的外壳中，寄寓着忧患、批判、黑色幽默、愤怒不平的综合灵魂，他将带着惊恐和压抑的多种精神指向糅合为一种新的淡泊与空灵，并以诗化的情怀剖视灵魂际遇、捕捉都市幽灵。这是一种颇具东方品格的方式，它在淡泊背后深藏着忧虑，在空灵底层滚动着激情，在诗情之中体验着危机。它应该而且可以比疾呼呐喊更加撼人。
他的画有明显的叙事性，在怪异的车轮间有怪异的人物和怪异的表情，这似乎隐喻着什么恐怖的事件。然而，这里的叙事性并不是客观叙述而是心理叙述，因此没有客观叙述的逻辑而只有心理隐喻的逻辑，按客观叙述逻辑，他的画处处错位而且莫名其妙，恰是这种错位，使都市风景转化成了都市忧思。
