董钢，1928年生，又名纯瑜，上海市人，祖籍浙江鄞县。上海圣德小学毕业，崇实中学肄业；少小从师学诗文书画，从丰子恺受西方艺术的启蒙教育。在六年半的学徒生涯中自学不辍。
1949年考入华东新闻学院讲习班学习。同年转介考取国立北平艺专，1953年毕业于中央美术学院绘画系。1963年毕业于中央美术学院油画研究班。自1953年以来，执教于西安美术学院，历任美术系，油画系副主任，为油画系副教授，中国美术家协会会员，陕西省老教授协会会员。1994年受聘任上海东方文化学院美术院油画工作室导师。1996年被选任陕西油画学会和西安油画学会顾问。
早年作品有《赶春会》（年画，1953年北京人民美术出版社，入选《1949—1959十年年画选编》，《送社员去学习》（年画，1955年陕西人民出版社）；油画作品有《揽羊人》（1963年北京中国美术馆展）。《丁香》、《山村采访》、《作家柳青在皇甫村》、《大丽花》、《疏影》、《演奏大提琴的女孩》等。作品入选全国油画展、西北五省（区）美展、陕西省美展，在国内、香港、台湾并曾赴日本、新加坡及法国展出。印刷品散见于《中国高等美术院校油画集》（湖南美术出版社），《高等艺术院校教师人体习作选》（岭南美术出版社）、《油画人体》（四川美术出版社）等专集以及院刊《西北美术》。学术上主张立足民族的根本，继承现实主义、浪漫主义写实与理想相结合的中西艺术传统之精华，博采诸家之长，“外师造化，中得心源”，抒发真情实感，创作表现不拘一格。时评其画风面向生活，个性鲜明，淳朴纯挚。简历被辑入《中国现代美术家人名大辞典》、《中国当代艺术界名人录》、《中国文艺家传集》等辞书。
