王济远，男，1893年出生于江苏，祖籍安徽。早年在江南画坛已声名大噪，与画家如张善孖、张大千、陈澄波及潘玉良等时相往来。1919年时并与画家汪亚尘等加入由刘海粟在上海创办的著名西画团体“天马会”。曾担任上海美专教授及绘画研究所主任等。1926年先生赴东京及巴黎考察美术，并于当地举办画展。1941年起定居美国，并创办华美画学院，传授中国画艺及书法，移居海外数十年志在追求中西画艺之气质。晚年作品很少公开，1971年在美国史密斯桑宁博物馆安排下，与相交半世纪的画友张大千，各以作品十五幅于该馆展出两年。曾分别于1959年及1973年访台，并于第二次访台时带回作品一百幅，分赠台北历史博物馆及故宫博物院。其作品获北京中国美术馆永久典藏。1975年1月逝世于侨居地纽约。
