曾梵志

曾梵志,1964年出生于湖北武汉市,1991年毕业于湖北美术学院油画系。从二十世纪九十年代起,曾梵志的创作以其独特的语言风格和敏锐的社会批判,受到评论界广泛的赞誉,也得到社会民众的持续关注。与此同时,曾梵志参与了一系列国际和国内重要的艺术展事,包括首届广州双年展(1992)、广州三年展(2002)、威尼斯双年展(2009)等,并在上海美术馆、苏州美术馆、新加坡美术馆、保加利亚国立美术馆、法国Saint-Etienne 当代艺术博物馆等知名艺术机构举办了个人展览。曾梵志被认为是当代中国较具代表性和国际影响的艺术家之一。

个人经历

曾梵志1964年出生于湖北武汉的一个普通家庭,父母都是一家印刷厂的工人。年少的曾梵志是内向的,在学校不爱说话,还经常回答不上来老师的提问,班上仅有的三位没有加入少先队的学生,他是其中一个。日后,这一伤痛进入《面具》系列中表现的一个瞬间。
学校渐渐成为曾梵志厌恶的地方。16岁,初中毕业时他说什么都不愿意再上学了,“我没有办法在学校那个环境待下去,天天都觉得痛苦,我就求我父母让我走上社会。”曾妈妈最终拗不过儿子,由曾爸爸找了一个在印刷厂的工作,少年曾梵志走上社会了,“差不多就是童工”。
“走上社会也好,我开始慢慢清楚自己想要什么。”曾梵志结识了一位比他大十岁的邻居,这位邻居大哥因为没有考上湖北美术学院油画系的研究生,闲来无事,就教曾梵志画画。他们几乎天天在一起画画,没过几年,曾梵志便不再去印刷厂。
17岁时,他与一些热爱美术的朋友到处游历,在北京和上海接触了西方的现代画家的作品,非常震惊。他立志进入艺术的殿堂学习,却因为文化课不好,连续四年高考都名落孙山。1987年,23岁的曾梵志终于如愿成为湖北美院油画系8名新生之一,而当年油画系的教师则有12位。这份荣耀令他父母邀请了所有街坊来庆祝。

进入学校后,学校的教学方式和好学生的标准跟自己的想象有些出入。自认为当时已经是自由艺术家的曾梵志喜欢自由的状态,喜欢去外面看各种展览,但同时又要按照学校的方式去完成作业,去考试。当自由艺术家和学校好学生有着诸多矛盾时,曾梵志认为应该找一个更适合自己表达情感的,表达内心状态创作作品的一个方向。
在美院,受德国表现主义的影响,曾梵志与苏派教学渐行渐远,课余创作那些日后被评价为“带有启示性表现主义色彩”的画作。到了大学三年级,他直接将课余创作带进课堂,遭到了两极化的评价,“年纪大的反对,给我打68分,但是年轻老师给我打98分”。
曾梵志大学三年级时创作了《忧郁的人》。这幅同学的肖像画,让曾梵志学会了如何用自己的感情去表达自己所要描绘的对象,记录了曾梵志艺术发展的转变。1992年,他以500元的价格将这幅画出售给一家基金会。19年之后,成名之后的曾梵志,用超过千万的重金回购了这幅作品。
当同学们都按照老师的要求奔赴西藏或黄土高原去体验生活的时候,曾梵志却留在了武汉,画他熟悉的街道和生活。曾梵志当时住在武汉一所医院的隔壁,他住的房子没有洗手间,因此他每天经过武汉这家医院的走廊借用洗手间,周围或焦急或茫然的病人们逐渐成为曾梵志每日所见的必须,手术台、人体、痉挛的眼神,这些元素在曾梵志91年到94年的作品中呈现出来,让他一下子就摆脱了模仿状态,跨入成熟。
曾梵志,1995年参加“1979年以来中国前卫艺术展”(巴塞罗纳圣莫尼卡艺术中心)。1996年参加“中国展”(波恩艺术博物馆)。1997年参加“首届当代艺术学术邀请展”(中国美术馆)。1998年举办“曾梵志个展1993-1998”(中央美术学院画廊、香格纳画廊)。作品多为瑞士、德国、香港及国内收藏家收藏。
毕业时,曾梵志被分到武汉一家广告公司,理由是油画专业正好与广告公司所需的“去大街上画画”对口。到那以后曾梵志自然很失望,“当年体制不是好事,它会把你专业废掉。”
于是继续坚持从大学开始的自由创作,画肉联系列、画协和医院题材、画市井小巷的粗茶淡饭,也画人性的敌视和暴力倾向——这些画面是对青年曾梵志当时饱受折磨的个人情感、挫败感和焦虑感的集中展示。“我当年那样画画是不被主流允许的,属于资产阶级自由泛滥,他们不会说你遵从内心感受。”
美国《艺术新闻》一位艺术评论的撰写者来武汉考察后,在杂志上发表了曾梵志《协和三联画》系列作品。这让曾梵志高兴坏了,恨不得天天打开这本杂志给人家看。
不久,《江苏画刊》跟着刊登了此系列作品。1991年夏,著名艺术评论家栗宪庭让曾梵志寄几张作品图片给他,并在香港刊物《21世纪》为其写了一篇评论文章。栗宪庭第二次来找曾梵志时,还带来了香港汉雅轩老板张颂仁,那是曾梵志第一次卖画,价格2000美元,是那些拿工资的人好几年的收入。张颂仁还向曾梵志发出“后89中国新艺术”展览邀请。
受到关注,让曾梵志对未来充满了希望。“ 后89中国新艺术的展览,让我觉得我走的这条艺术之路是对的。我们关注内心、关注社会这种艺术表达方向是对的。”除了有了鼓励和信心外,这一次卖画经历也让曾梵志敢到北京来,租个房子画画。
2014年2月,拍卖场的追捧、学术平台的认可,艺术家曾梵志正走出中国当代艺术家的群体效应。在巴黎市立当代美术馆举办的曾梵志首个法国回顾展落幕。39件作品用倒叙的方式给西方提供了一次了解“完整曾梵志”的机会,为期4个月的展览迎来超过5万观众。展览闭幕当天,此次展览的主导者巴黎市立当代美术馆馆长法布里斯艾尔高特(Fabrice Hergott)接受新京报记者专访。他指出,尽管筹备展览前也有不少反对声音,但该馆首次采用与欧美艺术家完全对等的方式为中国艺术家做个展,是因为“美术馆要展示世界性,我们应该接受来自不同国家的艺术。”
展览汇集了曾梵志1990年至2013年创作的39件作品,其中就包括他最具有代表性的“面具”系列,如《面具系列6号》,还有2004年的作品《肖像》。

2007年5月,曾梵志第一件过千万的作品于香港佳士得拍出,其1996年作品《面具系列:11996第8号》估价为100万至150万港元,最后拍出1264万港元。事实上,曾梵志最吸金的面具系列早在上世纪90年代末便已进入拍场,但在1997年中国嘉德秋拍的首秀中,这幅估价为8万至10万元的《面具97》惨遭流标。
2008年6月《面具系列1996No.6》以高达7536.75万港元成交,刷新了此前蔡国强保持的最贵中国当代艺术品纪录。
2012年9月1日在北京798举办的芭莎明星慈善夜,曾梵志与冯小刚共同创作的作品《一念》拍卖了1700万元。

个人荣誉

1993年作品《协和三联画》获“九十年代广州双年展”优秀奖。2010年12月19日,获得2010中国娇子新锐榜年度艺术家。
2015年3月18日胡润研究院在北京发布《2015胡润艺术榜》(Hurun Most Sucessful Chinese Artists Alive Today 2015),曾梵志2014年作品总成交额2.9亿元列崔如琢之后,位列第二,范曾以2.7亿元位列第三。
社会活动
曾梵志在参加时尚界的慈善拍卖时,就曾捐出过一米七的大画,让主办方感激不尽。此外,曾梵志每年还拿出12万,在母校设立优秀学生奖学金;每年拿出10万美金,资助北大现代艺术档案的研究工作。曾梵志说自己以前也有过困难的时候,当时也接受过别人的帮助,爱心是需要传递的。对于这些在地震中丧失行走能力但仍旧热爱艺术的孩子们,曾梵志通过记者传达鼓励的话。 在地震发生后,曾梵志也到过地震灾区。“我刚开始的时候先是听别人说了一些关于‘艺术助残’的事情,后来见到周春芽听他详细地告诉我之后,我决定支持并真正地参与到这个活动中来。”之前不少社会各界人士都对“艺术助残”慷慨解囊,曾梵志也毫不例外,他一口气捐赠了35万人民币,这成为“五彩基金”成立以来收到的最大一笔单人捐赠。周春芽对曾梵志的善举表示出由衷的赞赏,他说:“为了让这一大笔善款发挥更大的作用,我们决定用这笔钱专门设立一个‘五彩基金·曾梵志艺术奖学金’,用作残疾孩子在艺术院校深造的学费,只要他们考上大学,奖学金正式开始启动。”慈善晚宴,曾梵志也出席了。

人物评价

曾梵志的作品以其严谨而独特的造型,假面具的符号,在单纯而平静的背景衬托下,演绎着当下人们的精神状态,烦躁、不安.尽管带有卡通的色彩和调侃的味道,仍给人以沉重感和压抑感。他的作品在写实的外框下,采用隐喻和象征的表现主义手法,给人留下鲜明的印象。 作品热议 对于曾梵志的《最后的晚餐》,朱其说,杰出艺术家的作品可以成就高价。但要满足一些必要条件。 首先,画家的作品是否得到了学术界的共同认可?如果艺术史都评价一个人的作品成为了一个时期的代表作,即便他本人不是顶尖的艺术家,至少也能够获得艺术史评价对其作品价格的支撑。 第二,画家的作品价格是否公允?不能是只有一场拍卖会上你出现个天价,你所有的作品就都能水涨船高。在国外,一个画家的身价,取决于10家~ 20家世界上顶尖的艺术基金会给出的平均报价。比如一个画家可能卖过一幅1亿元的画作,但5年来只有这一幅达到过1亿元,其他的作品都在2000万元左右,那么1亿元的那幅作品带有偶发性,不能算作能够代表你作品的真实的价格。 当然,即便是毕加索这样伟大的画家,他的作品价格也存在差距,那些具有历史代表性、得到过艺术品评价的作品,价格一定高于他的小品画。但市场对其作品的平均价位是有预期的。 “曾梵志的作品没有理由卖到这么高。我认为还是一个地区炒作价格。在台湾也曾经出现过这种情况,某一个艺术家的作品被资本疯狂追逐,但跃出这个地区,没有人认可这样的价格。” 第三,一件拍品的落锤价是不是真正的交割价?事实上,在拍卖落锤后交割后,可能还有很多外人不了解的协议方式。比如艺术家还会多送买家几幅作品,等于是买家出了一笔钱买了画家一批画。“但有些天价拍品即便是买一幅送一批,买家最后也不买单。” 北京大学文化产业研究院副院长陈少峰在接受本刊记者采访时表示,曾梵志的天价作品在西方主导的系统之中,与国内的作品没有可比性。而所谓的系统,也可以看成是一个圈子。“你进不了这个圈子,你就是外行,有好东西也卖不出好价钱。” “曾梵志的天价对国内很多人来讲,是没有意义的,因为那是西方的定价系统和香港的拍卖系统合作的产物,与国内艺术系统不对应,也可以说没有任何指导意义。”陈少峰表示。中国没有当代艺术? 有人说,曾梵志作品的天价,会让中国当代艺术热起来。朱其却说,中国当代艺术现在没有热,今后十年也不会热了。“艺术市场是不受报纸的影响,如果全国的报纸今天都报道股市要涨,可能明天股市在人气作用下就真的会上涨。在艺术品市场,买东西的始终是那一小批人,他们不受媒体影响,媒体说市场会火,到下半年可能还是没人气。” 虽然已经“得罪”了不少人,但朱其还在强调,严格说来,那些明星艺术家也不能算作是当代艺术家。因为他们用的艺术表现语言,还停留在“二战”以前,比如表现主义,或者上世纪50、60年代的波普艺术,那些都不能算做是当代艺术。当代艺术应该以多媒体为载体,而且基本上不包括绘画。 “现在很多人说自己是当代艺术家,当我没有见到一个画家贡献了一种新的艺术语言。只有贡献了一种新的语言模式,才能说你的作品是当代艺术。我们现在只能是当代题材绘画。在中国,那些所谓的当代艺术家,大部分是名不副实的。在国外也是这样,弗洛伊德绘画也很不错,但没有人说他是当代艺术家。一些作品可以说是后现代绘画,但后现代绘画也不能成为当代艺术。” 在朱其看来,曾梵志使用的是德国表现主义的语言,严格讲不算当代艺术。“我们这十年来有一个误解,就是把一批惯于使用上世纪20年代到60年代绘画语言的画家,称之为当代艺术家代表。这是不对的。但也有人反驳说他反应了当代生活,但表现手法上你还是用了早已有之的语言,因为艺术史首先是语言史。”
