柳玉，男，油画家，1959年5月生于广西玉林，祖籍山东蓬莱，1966年随父母到长沙，1979年考入湖南师范大学美术学院，1983年毕业，2003年结业于广州美术学院高级进修班。现为长沙学院艺术设计系主任、教授，中国美术家协会会员，湖南省美术家协会理事，民进长沙市第十一届委员会常委，长沙市美术家协会副主席[1]。2012年获长沙市第九届社会科学优秀人才称号。

壁画创作
1984年为长沙汽车站创作了大型风景壁画《岳麓秋枫》、《风景明珠张家界》，其中《岳麓秋枫》2004年入选《中国百年壁画大全》；
1985年柳玉为长沙火车站创作了大型壁画《森林的早晨》、《儿童乐园》。
