郑重,字千里,号无著,歙(今安徽歙县)人,流寓金陵(今南京)。好楼居,日事香茗。善写佛像,必斋沐而后举笔。丁云鹏推为赵伯驹后身。亦画山水小景。摹仿宋、元体均精妍。万历四十年(1612)临王蒙葛仙移居图,顺治五年(1648)作《十月岭梅图》。《无声诗史、歙县志、故宫书画集、风雨楼扇粹》。

郑重,明末名画家,字千里,安徽歙县人。擅山水、佛像,丁云鹏推为赵伯驹后身。
他的画传世极少,有关他的记载则尤少。清人姜绍书曾这样为他立传:“寓金陵,风仪修洁,雅好内丹。其作画,含毫濡素,超轶群品。曾见其山水、人物册页百幅,仿宋元名家,体韵精研,不渝前轨。皴染遒逸,能集大成。”
姜绍书称他“雅好内丹”,指出他耽于道家术,这是当时文人的一种习尚。而郑重也确实能诗文,并不是一个仅知埋头弄笔的画工。今藏河南省博物馆一幅他为晚明金陵画家邹典所作《山水》小卷,其上有郑重自题诗一首:“寂寂松关画不开,阶前若个破莓苔。胸中玄念无些俗,笔底奇思入九垓。幸亦与君同僻好,可能容我共徘徊。卧游一室诚为乐,自得何妨世所猜。”约略可知他有不同流俗、洁身自好的一面。姜绍书“风仪修洁”的评价是可信的。而他与邹典的熟悉与交往,则同样可证郑重晚年定居南京这一信息亦是可信的。另一幅能证明他与南京有密切关系的则是他的力作《江山揽胜图》。
《江山揽胜图》纸本,手卷,长406厘米,高27.5厘米。
全图层峦叠嶂,松翠林密,洞壑杳暝。山麓广处,有良田美宅,果蔬修竹连云。此间流泉奔突,麋鹿成群,有士子隔溪论道,岩下入定。山下大江空阔,忽风急浪高,忽波平如镜。展卷具千里之势,极目有可游、可居之感。构图繁复饱满,从险处、奇处入手,山势峥嵘,幽深峻奇,状若仙界。稍后则山峦趋于平缓,良田广宅,牧歌渔唱,俨然人间桃源。画法细谨精严,千皴万擦,重染密点而不厌其繁,有密不伤其实,工不落于板之妙,且敷色淡雅,色墨融洽,是精神与气韵皆具,笔墨与构思俱佳的力作。
卷后,自题或作或辍前后近二十年乃成,可见含毫命笔,心力与俱。图成,赠太师六翁魏上公,以谢知遇之恩。六翁为徐弘基,明代开国元勋徐达裔孙,袭封魏国公,卷后程琦考之甚详。而郑重晚居金陵,名动公卿间,此亦一证也。
郑重画有粗笔与工笔二种,工者多青绿重彩,丁云鹏所称“赵伯驹后身”者即指此类画。而此卷虽工细然淡远超脱,境界不凡,是所见郑重作品中最为精绝的一件。且佳纸良墨,保存如新,则尤为难得了。
卷首有徐弘基自己的藏印“魏国公印”,可知其见重。清代为伍元蕙、盛宣怀等鉴藏,近则为程伯奋收得,流传有绪,凿凿可考。
万历戊午(1618年),吾友汪汝开馆予家山书屋,读书之暇,静忆数十年来所师前代名贤,落想运笔之法谱之。此卷凡数载未就,既值四方多事。吾普门师授记择地而避,因久寓白门。迨崇祯壬申(1632年)秋,始家桃叶溪上,课儿艺圃,以适余年。乃理旧业而足成之,聊寄予生平山水间意。顷太师六翁魏上公,寔予南来之万间厦也,见此爱玩不已,遂厚赠归之。噫,公所蓄先世之缥缃玉轴几千卷,此卷未知于昔贤何如?然予半生笔墨之缘诚得所归矣。戊寅(1638年)四月天都郑重记。

纸本,纵135.8公分,横29.1公分,故宫博物院旧藏,【现藏】台北故宫博物院。
该幅作品描绘葛洪移居情景。布居窄长,用笔仿王蒙之焦墨、渴苔,设色清雅。题材虽属道教故实,然人物比例远逊于山川林屋,观此画例,足证元明以降,山水画已蔚成国画作之主导。
