李伟铭，广东汕头人，1983年毕业于广州师范学院中文系汉语言文学专业，同年考入广州美术学院史论研究室，师从陈少丰教授攻读中国美术史硕士课程，1986年毕业获硕士学位。
现为广州美术学院研究员、学术委员会委员，广东美术家协会常务理事，中国美术家协会理论委员会委员，岭南画派纪念馆学术咨询委员会委员，广东潮人海外联谊会青年委员会副主任。2000年获得日本国际交流基金资助，曾在日本从事研究工作。主要著作《图像与历史——20世纪中国美术考论》。主要学术论文散见于《朵云》、《新美术》、《美术研究》、《美术学研究》、《艺术史研究》、《艺术史研究》、《二十一世纪》、《20世纪中国画——“传统的延续与演进”国际学术研讨会论文集》、《海派绘画研究》、《20世纪中国美术教育学术研讨会论文集》、》《20世纪中国美术文选》等专业书刊。
