倪军，1963年7月出生。天津人。毕业于中央美术学院附中、中央工艺美术学院壁画专业及美国罗格斯大学研究生院(Rutgers University)。倪军的绘画以冷毅的幽默重观人类的政治历史与微妙的权利关系;他常常以超现实的方式描绘出或许发生过的"真相"。倪军曾在美国多所艺术院校任教，其间游历欧洲和南美，现居北京。

因长期对人类权力角逐与历史事件内幕的兴趣使得画家倪军笔下的人物充满了神秘与某种诙谐。倪军以罕见的冷毅幽默娴熟地将后现代主义式的绘画语言融合进看似写实的主题性绘画，用带有欧美现实主义绘画传统的视觉表现方式对当代政治史提出质疑。倪军近几年创作的《政治家》(组画)、《北朝鲜》、《纪念上官云珠》和《百岁希特勒》等与他二十六岁时的壁画作品《上兵伐谋》一脉相承，都是画家对人类本性中的恶斗与灵魂救赎的反思。

 1989年，倪军获美国罗格斯大学研究院(Rutgers University)的助教奖学金赴美研习美国现代主义艺术并师从利昂·高乐布(Leon Golub)、彼得·斯超德(Peter Stroud)等现代主义大师。在获得艺术硕士学位后，倪军连续十二年在纽约从事艺术创作与多种艺术活动，同时任教于罗格斯大学、德鲁大学(Drew University)和帕森斯学院(Parsons School of Design)等多所北美艺术名校。在与查克·克娄斯(Chuck Close)、马克·坦西(Mark Tansey)和山德罗·基亚(Sandro Chia)等现代主义与后现代主义艺术巨匠的交往中，倪军深入地检视了西方当代艺术的内涵与架构，掌握了丰富的一手资料。2001年春天，告别了生活了十二年的曼哈顿和对欧洲南美等地的长期游历，倪军携家回到北京。在母校清华美院与中央美院的讲座和教学中，倪军分享了自己多年来对西方美术的个人观察与思考，同时着重强调了自己对中国伟大的美术传统的新的认识。倪军说:"在艺术道路上我曾有袁运甫和利昂·高乐布这样的恩师实属幸运。尽管属于两种不同的文化，但他们最重要的思想都是:艺术要立足于艺术家生存的文化环境;个人的独立思想与创造性对一个民族的文明建设有更深远的意义。虽然中美二位大艺术家从未谋面，但他们身上的艺术家尊严、严肃而从不趋附时流的人生态度对我都有重大影响。"

 北京索家村的艺术110画廊自今 年四月开幕以来已主办了二次重要的当代艺术家联展;题为《倪军》的展览是画廊推出的首个当代艺术家个展。

 倪军认为自己将在保留西式写实主义技法的同时进一步实践对两宋绘画美学体系的精神融合，从而发展出更具前瞻性的个人绘画语言。

 Brief Introduction to Characters

Ni Jun was born in July 1963. Tianjin people. Graduated from Central Academy of Fine Arts, Central Academy of Arts and Crafts Murals and Rutgers University, USA. Ni Jun's paintings re-examine the relationship between human political history and delicate rights with cold-hearted humour; he often depicts the "truth" that may have happened in a surreal way. Ni Jun has taught in many art schools in the United States, traveled to Europe and South America, and now lives in Beijing.

Because of the long-term interest in human power struggle and the insider of historical events, the characters in painter Ni Jun's works are full of mystery and humor. Ni Jun combines the post-modernist painting language with seemingly realistic thematic painting skillfully with a rare cold-willed humor. He questioned the contemporary political history with the traditional visual expression of European and American realism painting. In recent years, Nie Jun's works such as Politician (Painting), North Korea, Cloud Pearl in Memory of Shangguan, and Hitler at Centenary, which are in line with his mural works Shangbing's Expedition at the age of 26, are all artists'reflections on the vicious struggle and Soul Salvation in human nature.

The Way of Art

In 1989, Ni Jun was awarded an assistant teaching scholarship from Rutgers University to study American modernist art in the United States and studied with masters of modernism such as Leon Golub and Peter Stroud. After receiving his Master of Arts degree, Ni Jun has been engaged in art creation and various art activities in New York for twelve consecutive years. He also teaches at Rutgers University, Drew University, Parsons School of Design and other famous North American art schools. In his contacts with the great masters of modernism and post-modernism such as Chuck Close, Mark Tansey and Sandro Chia, Ni Jun thoroughly inspected the connotation and structure of Western Contemporary Art and mastered abundant first-hand information. In the spring of 2001, after leaving Manhattan for twelve years and long-term tours to Europe, South America and other places, Ni Jun returned to Beijing with his family. In the lectures and teaching between Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Ni Jun shared his personal observation and Reflection on Western fine arts over the years, emphasizing his new understanding of the great Chinese art tradition. Ni Jun said, "On the road of art, I was lucky to have such teachers as Yuan Yunfu and Leon Galeb. Although they belong to two different cultures, their most important ideas are: art should be based on the cultural environment in which artists live; individual independent thinking and creativity have far-reaching significance for the construction of a nation's civilization. Although the two great Chinese and American artists have never met each other, their artist dignity, seriousness and attitude towards life, which never tends to coincide with the times, have a great impact on me. "

Art Exhibition

Since its opening in April this year, Beijing Soujiacun Art 110 Gallery has hosted two important joint exhibitions of contemporary artists. The exhibition entitled "Ni Jun" is the first solo exhibition of contemporary artists launched by the gallery.

Artists'Self-evaluation

Ni Jun believed that he would further practice the spiritual integration of the painting aesthetic system of the Song Dynasty while retaining the western realism techniques, so as to develop a more forward-looking personal painting language.
