万籁鸣(1900.1.18－1997.10.7)号籁翁，艺名马痴。世界动画大师，艺术大师，中国剪纸艺术第一人，动画电影创始人，世界著名导演，近代世界500名人之一。江苏南京人。万古蟾的孪生兄。幼时自学绘画。1919年入上海商务印书馆，先后在美术部、活动影片部任职。1925年与弟古蟾摄制的动画广告《舒振东华文打字机》，为中国动画片之雏形。1926年参加长城画片公司，兄弟合作摄制成第一部动画片《大闹画室》。1949年去香港，1954年回上海，任上海美术电影制片厂动画片导演。是中国影协第三、四届理事。曾导演《野外的遭遇》、《大红花》等彩色动画短片。1961－1964年创作大型彩色动画片《大闹天宫》（上下集）。

原名万嘉综，出生于江苏南京。擅长电影动画、中国画。早年从事美术编辑、中西画研究和卡通画设计绘制工作，探索以中国画形式制作动画片，是我国早期美术片开拓者之一。

他与万古蟾是孪生兄弟，自幼喜欢绘画，1919年进入上海商务印书馆工作，先后在美术部、活!动影戏部任职。主要创作广告画，并为杂志绘插图和封面。上个世纪二十年代，万籁鸣受美国动画片启发，联系中国的走马灯、皮影戏以及活动西洋镜的投影原理，开始和他的三个弟弟万古蟾、万超尘、万涤寰研究动画电影。1925年与万古蟾摄制动画广告《舒振东华文打字机》，开始动画创作生涯。1926年与万古蟾合作，为长城画片公司制作中国首部动画片《大闹画室》。1930年又为大中华影片公司制作了《纸人捣乱记》等短片。1931年起与万古蟾先后在联华影业公司和明星影片公司制作动画短片，如宣传抗日的《同胞速醒》(1931)、《精诚团结》(1931)、《民族痛史》(1932)、《血钱》(1932)等，以寓言故事为内容的《飞来祸》(1932)、《龟兔赛跑》(1932)、《蝗虫与蚂蚁》(1932)等。1935年制作了中国首部有声动画片《骆驼献舞》。抗战爆发后，又制作了宣传抗日救亡的动画短片《抗战特辑》(1938)、《抗战标语》(1938)和《抗战歌辑》(1938)。1940年万氏兄弟在上海创作完成了胶片长达八千余尺的中国也是亚洲第一部有声动画长片《铁扇公主》，在动画技巧上达到了新的水平。1954年万籁鸣从香港回到上海，任上海美术电影制片厂导演，先后制作了《野外的遭遇》(1955)、《大红花》(1956)等动画片。

2逸闻
新中国成立一周年时，万籁鸣曾参加香港的一个筹款晚会，凭借的是他的剪影手艺。当时，嘉宾和明星跳一个舞要5港币，而想要万籁鸣替自己剪一个人影，需要花20港币。

万籁鸣最喜欢的动物是猴子，他的《铁扇公主》《大闹天宫》都是以猴子为主角。他曾经说“世界上第一个上天的中国人是谁呢？孙悟空”。
1997年10月7日，97岁高龄的万籁鸣离开人世。
《大闹天宫》这部完全凭手工制作出来的动画片的鸿篇巨制，在40年后的今天仍然是一部经典传世之作。

1920年冬天，在上海闸北天通庵路的一条弄堂里，邻里们经常可以看到，有个亭子间里，总是彻夜灯火通明，室内的房客，好像从来不睡觉似的。好奇的人不免要多方打听，原来这里是个特殊的电影实验室，一个特殊的创作班子———万氏四兄弟，正在搞卡通（即动画片）试验。四兄弟的名字分别叫万嘉综、万嘉淇、万嘉结和万嘉坤。当人们知道他们是在搞卡通试验后，就送给他们一个风趣的称号：万氏卡通。
万氏四兄弟后来创作美术片时的署名依次是万籁鸣、万古蟾、万超尘和万涤寰，这是他们各人为自己起的号。老大万籁鸣和老二万古蟾是孪生兄弟，相貌似极，许多老朋友也会错认。“万氏四兄弟”于1941年完成了中国也是亚洲第一部动画长片《铁扇公主》。1949年，万籁鸣去香港，1954年秋回到上海，任上海美术电影制片厂导演。
把《西游记》绘成动画，是万籁鸣一直怀揣的梦想，特别是最激动人心的孙悟空“大闹天宫”的那一部分。万籁鸣曾在一篇文章中表达过自己同孙悟空这段未了的缘分，“在旧社会，我饱尝辛酸，始终无法实现这个愿望。我为之苦闷过，因为终日奔波，到处‘游说’，确实遭到资本家的白眼；我为之欣喜过，有某资本家愿意投资拍摄，我经之营之，花了半年多的心血，但到头来愿望还是成为泡影，资本家突然改弦更张，下令停止拍摄，因为物价飞涨，出售胶片药品比摄成影片获利还要多；我为之绝望过，因为动画事业到后来已经夭折，感到此生再也没有可能把‘大闹天宫’绘成动画了。”
脱胎换骨
动画片的特点之一为人物造型的独特性。平面的动画只有在准确、生动和优美的造型中才能赋予人物以各种不同的性格和气质，从而使他们成为鲜活的形象。万籁鸣曾表示对于孙悟空的形象他是熟稔，在解放前也曾经对《西游记》中的几个主要人物做过造型设计，但是今天在银幕上的孙悟空的形象，已经脱胎换骨了，要从故事的新奇、趣味着眼，将孙悟空处理成一个喜剧式的小人物。
将《西游记》原著改编为《大闹天宫》文学剧本也是一项非常艰巨的任务，编导一身的万籁鸣同另一位编剧李克弱接下改编的任务后，首先面临着就是产生敢不敢“碰”的问题。结果选中了《西游记》前七回，反映压迫者与被压迫者尖锐的冲突与斗争，认为其有深刻的现实意义，于是在《大闹天宫》文学剧本中，戏剧矛盾集中表现在孙悟空与以玉帝为首的统治者之间，而孙悟空勇敢机智、顽强不屈的性格也在这种冲突中逐渐成长成熟起来。

1961~1964年万籁鸣先生与唐澄在上海美术电影制片厂合作导演的动画片《大闹天宫》，全面发挥了多年来形成的精巧细腻的艺术风格，影片具有浓郁的民族气息，以幽默而富有装饰性的艺术造型，生动的情节，几年内创下了上亿票房，同时也震惊了国际动画界，在数十个国家和地区发行，并荣获第22届伦敦国际电影节最佳影片奖等无数奖项，此后的40年里，没有一部国产动画片能够达到《大闹天宫》的艺术高度和影响力。
