1942年9月生，回族，湖南邵阳人。中国美协会员，1956年入广州美院附中（七年制），1967年毕业于广州美术学院（本科五年制）。历任湖南省美协理事、湖南省书籍装帧艺术专业委员会委员、湖南少儿出版社期刊室负责人、美术编辑、湖南画报社副编审、广东江门市美协副主席，江门教育学院美术系任副教授、江门教育学院美术系教授等。
在工笔画的探索中，他以“传神写意”为宗旨，熔传统技法与现代审美为一炉、融工写于一体，注重学习继承工笔画的现实主义优良传统，并广泛吸收融入各画种技法特长，借以表达自己对生活的独特感受和理解以及精神情感的追求，探寻画面形态与色彩关系的整体形式美感，尤着意于色彩技法的挖掘，以加强色彩表现力作为创新的追求。代表作《绿色宝库》、《美的心愿》、《山镇集市》、《彝山情》、《收获时节》、《昙花》、《康巴娃》、《古老的花纹》等，参加国内外大型美展逾30次，在广东、湖南及美国主办多次个展，作品曾获全国奖、省奖多次，并被国家与海外收藏。出版有《马志中画选》。
