檀东铿，1943年4月生于福州。1965年毕业于福建师大中文系。历任福建师范大学艺术学院副院长兼美术系主任、副教授。中国美术家协会福建分会理事、福州烟山画院副院长。现为福建师大艺术学院副院长兼美术系主任、教授，硕士生导师，福建省美协副主席，福建省第八届政协委员，福建省美术教育研究会副理事长，福州市美协副主席，中国美协会员。
 檀东铿擅长中国画花鸟、山水，尤精于工笔花鸟画。曾受业于著名画家郑乃珖，长期得其精心教诲，近年来有三十多件作品入选中国美协主办的全国性美展或发表于《美术》、《中国画》、《国画家》等重要学术刊物。主要作品及著作有《花木正春风》、《欣芳万朵沐朝晖》、《陈颜诗句花鸟对屏》（两幅）、《和煦春光》、《馨香》、《映月》、《沃土盎然春》、《留驻春光暖万家》、《东山霓霞》、《南窗梅影》、《春歌》、《故园情思》等入选全国美展。《花卉》两件为国务院中南海紫光阁收藏。1987年应邀在美国洛杉矾举办个人画展。《不尽春消息》参加日本东京中国使馆中国文化日展。
 《朝花新供》参加日本东京中国使馆中国名家书画展。其中《新花长点居室春》、《藤荫春歌》为国务院中南海紫光阁收藏；《留驻春光暖万家》为江西八大山人纪念馆收藏；《怡然携春归》为江苏李可染纪念馆收藏。《盛世名花分外娇》获文化部、河南省政府主办的全国牡丹竞选画展二等奖。《东山霓霞》、《南窗梅影》获部委级优秀作品奖。《花香长系两岸情》、《清溪澄碧泛绮霞》参加文化部、中国画艺委会“世纪之光”中国画名家提名展。多次出访美国洛杉矶、西雅图、旧金山及日本东京等地。曾赴香港、台湾进行文化交流。
 有：三十集电视美术系列片《中国绘画长廊》、二十集美术教学片《檀东铿工笔花鸟画》、《檀东铿画辑》、《檀东铿扇面作品选》、《檀东铿工笔花鸟画精品选》、《花香鸟语》、《檀东铿工笔花鸟精粹》、《檀东铿扇面作品集》等八部著作或画册。
