李方玉，又名李牛、牛翁，号竹屋主人，1945年生于河南范县。1969年毕业于山东师范大学艺术系，1974年深造于中国美院国画系。现为中国美术家协会会员，国家一级美术师，山东省美术馆专业画家，山东当代花鸟画院常务院长，山东省书画研究院副院长，中国书法艺术研究院艺委委员，中华当代书画艺术研究会名誉主席，新加坡新神州艺术院高级名誉院士，曼谷中国画院名誉顾问，日本东京中国书画院高级院士。
主攻花鸟，兼及山水、人物、书法及绘画理论的探究。尤擅兰竹及藤本花卉，创作了风雪之竹、风雨之竹、露竹、雾竹等多幅竹画作品，被誉为山东一枝竹。曾于省内外多次举办个展、联展。《中国文化报》、《人民日报》、《中国书画报》、《大众日报》等几十家报刊杂志曾以专文介绍其国画艺术。
作品多幅被文化部、外交部、中国对外文化交流协会选去加拿大、日本、新加坡、法国、墨西哥等十余国及驻外使馆展出并收藏。作品还被中南海、毛主席纪念堂等多家博物馆、美术馆、纪念馆艺术单位收藏。
墨竹荣获‘97东南亚国际水墨展金奖。紫藤、雪竹分别获第三届、第四届"世界华人艺术香港大型艺术展特别金奖及国际特别奖，并享有"世界杰出华人艺术家"荣誉称号。曾在香港《美术家》、《中国书画报》、《艺苑掇英》等报刊、杂志发表绘画评论文章百余篇。人民美术出版社、大百科全书出版社、陕西美术出版社等出版了《李方玉画集》、《花鸟颂》、《画竹技法新探》、《画兰新技法》、《古今画竹》、《中外名画欣赏》、《中学文艺鉴赏辞典》等理论著作。主要生平事迹己被收入《中国当代国画家辞典》、《世界名人录》、《世界华人艺术界名人录》、《中国人物大典》等。
