杨秀珍，女，原名牛岭先，山东青州人。我国“五四”运动后早在1949年前就誉满画坛的少数女画家之一。曾任山西大学艺术系教授，山西美术家协会理事，山西花鸟画学会顾问，北京齐白石艺术研究会副会长，山西省齐白石艺术研究会会长。13岁考入济南省立女子师范学校。1934年师范毕业后以优异成绩考入北平国立艺术专科学校，曾先后被当时中国美术界著名画家王友石、齐白石收为入室弟子。作为齐白石器重的女弟子之一，杨秀珍得到齐白石长达20年的无私教诲，深得齐派水墨艺术的真传。杨秀珍特长大写意花卉和工笔草虫，笔墨精妙苍润，刚柔相济，画风清新典雅，艺术功力位居齐门女弟子之首。自1941年后，连续四次在北京举办个人画展，每次齐白石都曾为其题词落款20多幅画。齐白石在她画的《东坡观砚图》上题词：“秀珍女弟笔机畅雅，何异男儿，从古以来，书画一道，闺秀无能人，独后画学，当胜于昔也。”在她画的《虾》上题词：“画鱼虾者能得如此大方为齐门第一。”徐悲鸿曾为杨秀珍作品题曰“丹青可名世，齐老有传人”。
1952年杨秀珍跟随丈夫中国古典文学教授靳极苍来到山西大学任教。1957年靳极苍先生被错划为“右派”。杨秀珍受到了株连，被分配到山西大学生物系画标本。“文革”中，又随靳先生被下放到山西省阳曲县，干农活期间曾为当地群众画年画。1979年，靳极苍先生得到平反，重返山西大学中文系任教。晚年的杨秀珍才得以重新返回画坛，并出版了《杨秀珍画辑》、《杨秀珍画集》。山东青州兴建博物馆时，她曾予以大力支持，捐献了她的30幅作品。
杨秀珍的人生经历了艰辛的时代磨难，但她不屈不挠，无怨无悔，自强不息，人品高尚，为人和善。她学习白石老人那样言传身教，无私栽培后学几十年，献身于齐派艺术的传承，培养了杨吉魁等一批齐派传人。
