陈大章,出生于1930年9月，生于北京书画世家。幼从家叔陈林斋学画，十五岁时就有作品在北京荣宝斋展出。几十年不断努力学习，继承和发展达到一定艺术水平。他擅长美术设计。曾任职中国历史博物馆美术总体设计，从事博物馆美术设计。1950年参加北京“中国画研究会”并任常务理事，部分作品入选全国第一、二届国画展。陈大章擅长中国画、美术设计，以画山水、松、竹、梅著称于画坛。
陈大章曾任职中国历史博物馆美术部美术总体设计、副研究员，从事考古发掘和古画、壁画的复制、摹绘工作，绘编过《望都汉墓壁画》、《信阳楚墓图录》、《邓县彩色画像砖》、《中国历代服饰研究》等。复制的古漆器和六朝壁画摹本刊入日本出版的《世界美术全集》。现任北京海峡两岸书画家联谊会会长、中国书画函授大学教授、齐白石艺术研夯会副会长、中国美术家协会会员、中国老年书画会副会长、北京湖社画会副会长、中国文化部老艺术家书画社。 
国画创作早期以人物为主，后专攻山水，兼作松、竹、梅等。作品笔墨浑厚，意境开阔，富有表现力。作品多次在国内外展出，并被中国历史博物馆，中国军事博物馆，日本长崎现代美术馆，加拿大多伦多墨泉博物馆收藏。现为中国美术家协会会员、工艺美术学会理事、中国名人协会理事，中华和平统一促进会理事、北京海峡两岸书画家联谊会会长、文化部老艺术家书画社社长、中国书画函授大学教授等。
其作品多次在美国、日本、韩国、新加坡、马来西亚等国以及国内各省市和台湾举办过画展。作品被国内外许多博物馆、纪念堂、纪念馆收藏陈列。一些作品选为国家礼品赠送给世界各国。传略先后被收入多种辞海名炮等。出版有《陈大章画册》、《陈大章画集》。绘制出版有《信阳楚墓图录》、《望都仪壁画墓》、《郊县彩色画像图录》、《中国历代服饰资料研究》等大型画册。在当今画界，年过七旬的陈大章先生是一位修养相当全面的老艺术家，也是一位具有历史使命感的“德艺双馨”的老艺术家。他能在人物、山水、花鸟三个领域中均有　较高造诣，并使三者高度统一，以此独标一格、自成一家，并不多见。
他的画作既有传统的理念，又有创新的风貌，追求气韵、味道，把握笔墨的奥妙变化与传统艺术精神，笔力益发自然雄健，阳刚浑融之势笼罩画面，个性面貌、传统意趣和时代感，也十分明晰而统一。陈大章先生的为人、为学、为艺之迹，蕴含着深邃的人生　哲理，给人以思考和启迪。
