朱伯雄男，别名羊石，祖籍浙江湖州，出生于上海。我国著名的美术史论家，教育家，翻译家。他于1951年考入东北鲁迅文艺学院（即鲁迅美术学院前身），1984年加入农工民主党。1953年毕业于东北鲁迅艺术学院美术系1956年毕业于哈尔滨外语学院俄语系，1967年入中央美术学院深造，成为中国第一个美术史论硕士研究生。1973年任教于浙江美术学院(中国美术学院前身)，历任《美术译丛》主编、中国美术学院美术史论系主任、教授等职。1987年任浙江国际美术研究会副会长，他还筹建了中国美术学院史论系，并担任了第一任系主任，培养了一批优秀的学生。朱先生精通英，法，俄等多种语言。多年来，他频繁的来往于欧洲，东南亚，美国，苏联。担任着美国哈佛大学文理学院美术史论系客座教授，马来西亚艺术学院客座教授。通过讲学方式，不仅向外宣传了我们国家的美术理论研究成果，而且带回来大量西方现代艺术的信息和资料，为我们史论专业的教学和研究提供了极大的方便。

除主编《世界美术史》（十卷本，获第六届国家图书奖）、《世界美术经典》、《世界美术百科全书》、《世界美术名作鉴赏辞典》、《辞海》（美术卷）等大型专著、工具书外，还曾撰著计有：《莫奈》、《马奈》、《诺尔曼·罗克威尔》、《世界美术名作鉴赏辞典》、《外国美术名作欣赏》、《中国书画名家精品大典》（主编，四卷）等以及发表在各地美术报刊上的论文若干。其中《安格尔论艺术》获辽宁出版局三等奖；《世界美术史》获第六届国家出版物一等奖，山东省出版总社特等奖等奖励。

朱伯雄先生自幼受家训影响研习书法，初学颜柳，后学汉隶各帖。自40岁起临习草书，兼及汉隶，直至古稀之年。晚年，他将篆书（尤其是大篆）作为主攻方向，篆书艺术创作渐入佳境。2003年曾在上海举办个人篆书艺术展，受到国内外业内人士的赞扬与关注，部分篆书作品为海内外人士收藏。
