于水，1955年12月出生于北京，1994年毕业于中国艺术研究院美术研究所“首届中国画名家研修班”。
现任中国美术家协会会员、中国美术家协会北京分会中国画艺委会理事、文化部国韵文化画院人物画艺委会副主任、南京书画院特聘画师、《北京晚报》美术部主任。
1984年创作《长恨歌》获六届全国美展铜奖，1986年创作《七天长安令》获1986全国连环画十佳奖，1989年创作《离骚》入选七届全国美展并获1989全国连环画十佳奖，1989年创作《霍小玉》获七届全国美展铜奖并获1990全国连环画十佳奖，参加1991法国秋季沙龙大展，
1992年创作《孔雀东南飞》获联合国“野间奖”，1994年参加南京中国新文人画展，1995年参加上海中国新文人画展，
1994年赴台湾举办画展及艺术交流，1996年出版《中国新文人画册--于水》，1997年在墨岚画馆举办《于水朱新建画展》，1998年在紫阑阁画廊举办《于水，刘二刚，季酉辰画展》，2000年参加北京中国新文人画十年大展，2001年参加杭州《胡石，于水，张伟平》新文人画展，2002年参加湖洲中国新文人画大展，
2003年参加中国新文人画五人湖南展，
2004年参加中国新文人画五人桂林展，2005年参加中国新文人画洛阳展，
2006年7月在今日美术馆举办《于水画展》，2006年9月在淄博美术馆举办《于水人物画展》并出版《于水人物画集》，2006年10月在兰州美术馆举办《于水画展》，2006年10月在兰州军区美术馆举办《于水画展》。
