祖籍宁河县丰台镇，生于北京。现北京工业大学建筑系副教授。
多次在国内外举办个人展览及学术联展，如“北京国际水墨展”并获优秀奖、“93年度批评家提名展”、“当代文化情境中的--水墨本色”、“中国水墨实验二十年”等。1997年应邀赴英国伦敦妇女艺术博物馆参展，后赴法、西、荷等地艺术考察，9月赴德国波恩联合国画部，参加“来自世界九国--九女画家展”。2000年赴纽约联合国总部参加联合国主办的“世界女性的进步”展，受秘书长安南接见。出版《王彦萍画集》、《当代速写精粹-王彦萍专集》、《画家自选小辑-王彦萍》、《写意画家-王彦萍》等。

1982年中央美术学院国画系毕业，1987年获该系硕士学位
