张步，1958年进中央美术学院中国画系，从师李可染、蒋兆和、李苦禅、叶浅予等美术大师，1961年入该系山水画工作室，后又专门追随李可染先生学习山水画，跟随可染大师深入大自然写生和研修创作，成为少数几个入室弟子之一。1963年毕业后分配到工人日报社任美术编辑。1975年调光明日报社任美术编辑组长。1980年调北京画院，从事专门创作，现为一级美术师。历任《工人日报》、《光明日报》美术编辑，《光明日报》美术编辑组组长，北京画院专业画家、副院长、中国河山画会第一任会长。
