王伯敏

王伯敏(1924-2013),浙江台州人。现为中国美术学院教授,美术学博士生导师。为我国著名的的美术史论家、画家、诗人。50多年来,王伯敏有《中国绘画通史》、《中国美术通史》等43种编著出版。画山水外,间或写竹石。

“半唐斋里人长乐,壁上云山枕上诗”
其实,王伯敏不姓王,姓阮,他的亲生父亲叫阮仙全。阮家当年是浙江省黄岩县一个普通的雇农。王伯敏1924年就出生在黄岩。阮家穷,他一岁多一点就被卖给温岭城里王家。王家生活还算宽裕。他3岁那年,生父专程从黄岩来温岭看他,虽然当时他已长高了许多,养得白白胖胖,但生父心里却仍不是滋味,两眼噙着泪花,看他一会儿就又一声不响地回去了。到了6岁,王伯敏就到温岭恒昌私塾接受启蒙教育,王伯敏这个名字就是私塾的先生给起的,一直用到今天。后来他到县立小学读书。在县立小学他爱上了画画,课余时间就照着一本《芥子园画谱》临摹,三临五摹,画兴越来越浓,画技也越来越好,他和同学合作的一幅《石夫人图》被校长看到了,校长大加赞赏,还给了他一个嘉奖。画画之外就是爱好古诗词,背诗经、背唐诗宋词、查诗韵、辨四声、学读二十四种音节,偶尔自己也学着写诗填词,13岁那年的诗作《登石牛岭》:“三月西城外,烟笼岭下川。石牛无个事,日日卧山巅。”曾在学校师生间传唱一时。王老的诗词功底就是那时打下的。
王伯敏喜欢诗,喜欢“平平仄仄”、“盈盈汀汀”。他说:“读书、作画、看山到了会心时,诗句常常脱口而出。宋代有位诗人曾说:‘吟到老、改到老。’改诗之苦,惟有自己知道。他特别喜欢在更深之时,冷月斜照之下,酌上一口苦茶,外静内定,思绪无穷,那是种颇有禅味的境界,常会不由自主吟出几首诗来。是的,王老的诗是在书画界出了大名的,当年沙孟海诸乐三等合作巨幅,画后题跋,内容通常由王伯敏拟就,他根据画面和现场气氛,每每有点睛之笔,在这方面王伯敏是很受同仁称道的。
“读书倦了画云山,落墨灯前不令闲,淡淡浓浓多是趣,小舟添在水湾湾。”1999年他出了一本《柏闽诗选》,收的是平日闲吟的一部分,包括论画、记游及起居400余首。
“写史要实,论理要明”
1942年2月,王伯敏入上海美专西洋画系深造。在这所学校里他开始了美术史论研究,经过几十年坚持不懈的努力,终于成了本学科杰出的带头人。当然最让王伯敏引为自豪的是他曾拜在艺术大师黄宾虹徐悲鸿南北二虹(鸿)两位大师的门下,成了他们的得意门生,从而吸收了南北两地丰富的艺术营养,站在巨人的肩膀上不断地向更高的山峰攀登。在不经意中他自己也成了艺坛之巨人。1947年12月8日,王伯敏在北平石附马胡同后宅35号徐悲鸿府上行跪拜大礼,正式成为大师的弟子时的情景,至今让他激动不已。他跟随徐悲鸿虽然只有一年半时间,但大师的风范学养却深深扎根在他心里,让他终生受用不尽。1952年他来到浙江美院,居住在栖霞岭,与黄宾虹为邻,又成了黄宾虹的关门弟子。黄宾虹送给他八个字:“写史要实,论理要明”。王伯敏就是按照恩师送给他的这八字真言努力攀登的。他坚持鸡鸣起读。他读书必备纸笔,一有心得便取笔记下。如今他记下的笔记卡片无数,但凡到过半唐斋的人无不对他那书似乱山堆叠、文稿盈篚满箱的情景留下深刻的印象。他写下的那首《生日自况》中有两句诗“作画著书鬓未斑,煮茶夜坐自安闲”,这就是他平日的生活写照。

个人评论

晚清以来,台州造就了一批书画名家,已作古的章梫、喻长霖、柯潢、陈叔亮诸君,影响披及海内外,各领风骚数十年,后人追随者莫不争相传阅遗墨。但如果找渣子,他们身上都有一点“硬伤”,晚清时代的章梫、喻长霖都是光绪年进士及第出身,高中进士自然代表着令人称羡的功名,这好象拥有一帧最闪亮的“学历证书”,这件硬本本是足够让人吃定一辈子的。他们的艺术成就,善则善矣,平心而论,也是缺少一份激情,最终是经伦世务者的诗文余事,超级票友而已。
另外柯潢、陈叔亮二子,解放前都是在重庆、延安一带镀过金的,当然首先是革命者,然后是艺术家。功力实属深厚,作品格调方面常常留下革命性的痕迹,缺少的就是艺术品内在的那股玩味。艺术是纯净的,是作者内心世界没有功利的抒发和感怀。爱情如果附丽,就会变得投机,艺术如果附丽,就会缺少真趣。
今人王伯敏先生才是一个奇迹,他把一生投入到真、善、美的求索中,理论和实践不断地螺旋上升,硕果累累,甚得滴水穿石之妙。他的艺术生涯似乎蛮有“计划”,年轻时代选择了美术史论研究,精力充沛,化了几十年建构了美术理论体系,同时空闲时间坚持作画,每天模山范水,打下了坚实的传统基础。七十岁以后,年事已高,精力渐衰,减轻理论的追索,开始专攻书法绘画,只因年青时追求大理论、少创作,到晚年是少理论、大创作,最终理论与实践有机结合,积厚薄发,相互辉映,晚年的变法自然是得心应手,水到渠成,卓然成就一代大家也。
许多搞美术的,如果一生只追求理论方面的修养,创作跟不上,这样就无法充分展示自己的才艺。相当于搞音乐的,只会填词、作曲,不会出台演唱,隐匿在后台当“无名英雄”,无机会走到前台闪亮登场,的确是一种遗憾。另外一类搞美术的,一生埋头创作,平时不注重理论修养,创作出来的作品容易简单的重复,千人一面而已。作品的思想性严重缺失,才情不高,落墨无法,没有深厚的理论体系强有力支撑,欲想获得大成就,缘木求鱼,不太现实的。
王伯敏的理论和创作二者兼收并蓄,非常成功!试图探求艺术成就,窃以为真正的核心艺术价值是著作美术史的贡献,他被当代美术界称为“六史罕人”,先后编著并在国内外出版的《中国绘画史》,《中国版画史》,《中国美术通史》,《敦煌壁画山水研究》等等。约略拜观其文,治学严谨、文字优雅,说理透彻、深入浅出,常有凿凿言语,文、史、哲、术数,各科派系理论融于一锅煮,以臻化境矣。王伯敏巍巍美术巨著,如登艺术的泰山之巅,望泰山而少天下焉。纵观当今美术界无出其右者,前无古人,来者亦不可追也。每当学人提及先生博文强记的奥秘时,王伯敏认为自己惟一可以说的:“那就是对光阴的珍惜,虽然没有从小做到三更灯火五更鸡,但是一天24小时主观上没有浪费”,正是由于对光阴的珍惜,才换来了千余万字的美术史出版物。
王伯敏虽然也有一面金字招牌,那是中国美院国画系教授、博导的名片,但每当我们欣赏他的诗文、书法、国画作品,却感觉丝毫与这些浮名联系不起来,作品没有学院派一味求霸、程式化刻板的思维定势和习气,扑面而来的是大自然和田野泥土的芬芳气息。欣赏他的山水画,淋漓的笔墨,纵横恣肆,儒雅飘逸,神韵天成,松烟宿墨之间,山水氤氲,描写的是真山真水、真人真事,让观者有亲临其境之妙,如在画图中游玩呢。
王伯敏平素尤喜竹石。书房案头常置竹石娱情,所绘竹石图就有一股台州人的豪气和硬气,那坚硬玲珑的磐石,旁倚一劲竹常常是一枝通天,豪情万丈、才情横溢,所绘竹叶无不千笔万笔,又是杂而不乱,无不左右顾盼多情,随风摇曵,画面入流露出一股浓浓的书卷气,绝对洗涤心灵!
王伯敏年轻时尝作一诗:麝墨浓如漆,狼毫稍激情,无妨怜白水,渴笔少精神。这是青年学子时自谦之语。晚岁时节,先生人书俱老,笔墨游仞有余,又赋诗一首,曰:麝墨浓如漆,狼毫力似针,无妨怜白水,渴笔长精神。不同时代反映他不同的艺术心境,区区小诗,即可反映出他一生对艺术的真诚和对诗文的锤炼和寄情。
半生游子,已成翁。王伯敏出生于台州路桥,稍长迁居温岭城关,长期寓居湖上,成名于西子湖畔,晚年艺术发力,名满天下。今朝把毕生的精神和物质财富全数带回故土,这的确是让台州人民享受不尽的艺术盛宴,温岭王伯敏艺术馆的建立,这不仅仅王伯老个人的荣耀,更是一座鲜活的台州艺术教育基地,台州千万学子终于找到获得成功的方向,有了坐标,从而学会了追寻理想。当然在这奇山异水,古来就有海上名山之美誉的风水佳地,理应造就出更多象王伯敏先生这样的杰出艺术家。

艺术成就

王伯敏是中国美术史界的优秀代表,也是中国美术史这门学科的杰出带头人。他以独具的慧眼,极高的悟性,超前的创见,开拓性地编著了《中国绘画史》、《中国版画史》、《中国美术通史》、《中国少数民族美术史》、《中国绘画通史》、《中国画构图》、《唐画诗中看》、《古肖形印臆释》、《水墨画纵横谈》、《柏闽诗选》、《黄宾虹画语录》等四十多种专著,壹千多万字,在国内外出版。还有二百多篇论文在国内外报刊发表,并出《王伯敏美术文选》。
《中国版画史》。系统地阐述了中国版画的发展,着重介绍明代版刻绘画的辉煌成就,为我国历史上出版最早的版画专史,被日本和英国翻译出版。
五十万字的《中国绘画史》。既介绍画家,品评绘画作品,又述说绘画理论的发展。是我国于建国后率先出版的画史专著,在我国相当长一段时期内,稳定了画史的编写体系,也是在本世纪下半叶具有较大学术价值的画学史著作。该书首获国家社会科学优秀成果奖。
《中国美术通史》,王伯敏主编,全书二百五十万字,既勾勒了美术演变进展的脉络,又概括了美术发展的规律,堪称中华民族上下数千年美术艺术的缩影,标志着中国美术史研究的一个里程碑。此书荣获中国图书奖。在庆祝国庆五十周年之际,又获文化部首届文化艺术学科优秀成果奖。
二百六十万字的《中国少数民族美术史》。分别论述了我国五十五个少数民族美术发展的历程。填补了我国乃至东方美术史研究的空白,为国内外美术史研究,提供翔实丰富的民族美术资源。获得了国家图书出版界的最高奖——国家图书奖。
王伯敏研究敦煌的壁画山水,先后著有五篇论文,均在敦煌学国际研讨会上发表。汇编《敦煌壁画山水研究》,浙江美术出版社出版。
王伯敏编著《中国画的构图》一书,不仅在国内多次出版,还在日本翻译出版。王伯敏针对中国画的时空概念,创造性地提出:步步看、面面观、专一看、推远看、拉近看、取移看、合六远等“七观法”。既是对传统山水画的重要总结,也有助于新山水画的创新、提高。

人物评价

王伯敏是既读万卷书,又行万里路,他遍历天下名山大川,名胜古迹,登长城、攀五岳、涉三峡、越河西走廊、沿丝绸之路、出塞外戈壁,凡是与绘画、与美学研究有关的地方,诸如拜城的克孜尔千佛洞、吐鲁番的高昌古城、敦煌的莫高窟及龙门、云冈等石窟,云南的大理,以至有丰富岩画的阴山、贺兰山、黑山左江等地,都留下了他的足迹。
王伯敏不仅在美术史论方面有重大建树,他的画同样成就斐然。画坛巨匠潘天寿曾赞他“不仅专史,能诗又工画,实在难能可贵”。王伯敏的画笔墨拙朴,浑厚华滋,且虚实结合,善藏善露,五色纷呈,气韵生动,特别是用水,很有独到之处。他的“凝水”、“铺水”和“水渍”等技法在美术界已产生很大影响。他所画竹石,挥写自然,气旺神畅,洗尽铅华,让人感受到大自然的盎然生机。
