半个多世纪以来,太虞艺术,成就斐然,山川之雄浑,阳刚之壮美,浩瀚之云海,耸峙之峰峦,危乎高哉,浑茫无际,沉稳、刚健的线条,浓烈鲜艳的色彩在他的画作中表现得酣畅淋漓,深厚的文学功底使得冯先生的画作更是意境悠远,诗画相融。
“几穿云界上层巅,漫倚高寒览大千。雪岭峥嵘天忍破,银潮浩瀚海无边。”“我收图画稿,奇观豁五脏。登临一俯仰,旅思如春涨。”都是随境所生的诗情。
万里长空得纵眸,冷风吹散古今愁——冯建吴的一生坎坷而艰辛,但是致力于探索创作和美术教育的脚步从没有停止过,他为中国美术教育事业作出了巨大的贡献。
 

生平经历

冯建吴1910年生于四川省仁县松林湾一书香世家。从他刻的一方印章里,知道他有一位“有万卷藏书,十亩花园之父”。幼时随族叔学诗文,受到中国传统文化的熏陶。少年就读于四川美专。三年后乘舟东下,到上海考入由吴昌硕后人创办的昌明艺专。在昌明艺专他师秉王一亭潘天寿诸乐三等诸家称为吴门再传弟子。他与友人在成都创办东方美专,曾聘黄宾虹先生入川讲学。小他十岁的胞弟长安画派创始人石鲁(冯雅珩)受它影响,就读该校,走上了学画之路,在此后长达半个世纪的时光里,他的命运和画艺总和石鲁紧紧的联系在一起,如果没有冯建吴石鲁不可能成为画家,而没有石鲁冯建吴也许将在传统中终其一生。
抗战时期冯建吴在办学期间曾以买画办学,浪迹巴蜀。有诗所云:“蹄迹纷纷四寨途,万人海里寂藏驱。绸僇怀单酣哀乐,摩荡江山润画图。却辅金魂尊几榻,风摇尘梦舞氍毹。侵胸冷暖多伤体,一舸闲思泛五湖”表现了他当时的行迹与心迹。解放前的时光,除在家习诗学文外,是“学画十年,买画十年”他用20年时光学习传统,探寻艺术真谛。他上朔殷商,下至明清,学习研究马远夏圭李思训王维董源巨然的技法特点,在诗书画印的长河里探源索流。
建国后,他即成为成都美协会员,有作品《青山魂》《奔腾》参加成都第一届美展,1954年他的工笔画《蔬菜丰收》参加全国第一届美展。此画后来为外文秀收购送日本展出。1956年西南美术专科学校(四川美术学院)聘他任教,看重的正是他深厚的传统学识功力。在校他担任山水、诗词、书法、篆刻四门课程的教学。美术教学的直观性很强,他即能讲的生动,有是师范作画的老师,自然深受学生欢迎。
他的艺术发展,每时每刻都在“逆水行舟”之中,他在进入传统之后,并没有固守传统的城池,而是努力寻求新的突破。50年代至60年代初,学术思想比较活跃,石鲁在西安带领大批热心中国画改革的老中青画家,为探索中国画的推陈出新“创造合乎新内容的新形式”,进行着勤奋的实践,开长安画派之先河。1960年——1961年冯建吴利用寒假到西安,与胞弟石鲁切磋画艺,共商创新大计。同时沿秦岭经三峡到武汉转桂林、云南等地写生,每月作画十余幅。既对景写生,又不拘于对景的绝对真实。冯建吴还把这种写生法运用在教学中,让学生感受到驾驭描写对象的自由。
他在1963年举办了“冯建吴书画展”在四川、成都、西安、福州等地巡展反映俱佳,名噪画坛。他终于冲破一家一派之藩篱,以写生为依据,自拓堂庑,个人风格初见端倪。一两年间画风突变,换了一个人似的。实则学识积聚、修养提高的结果。正如火山爆发,早已蕴蓄多年,一旦时机成熟,自然喷薄而出。
石鲁以“一手伸向传统,一手伸向生活”思路,探索着表现新生活的新绘画语言,为表现黄土高原地貌,石鲁创造了那拖泥带水、似皴似染,连皴带染的黄土高原歌。冯建吴数次上西安推崇石鲁“生活为我出新意,我为生活传精神”的主张。冯建吴始终奔着“出新意于法度之中”的原则。他反对为变而变,他视那种笔墨游戏似的所谓“心”为“野狐禅”,认为那都是“无根”之作,不会有生命力。
文革结束,他抱病登黄山、九华山,遍游富春江、新安江等地。驾山走白云,江海翻巨浪……我行拼老命,回来才舒畅。的题画诗,真实地反映了他,丹青不知老将至的精神状态和创作热情。
1989年2月去世的前十年里,他忍受了“后我生,先我死,哀哉季子”失去胞弟石鲁的悲痛。全身心的融进了他的艺术之中,多次应邀赴北京作画,曾为联合国大厅创作了宽四米、高两米的巨幅山水画,《蛾眉天下秀》、为钓鱼台国宾馆、国务院、中国国画院等作画百余幅。他的画还作为国家领导人出访的礼品,赠送给外国朋友,中国美术馆、中国画研究院、四川省博物馆、江苏省博物馆、深圳博物馆等都有他的作品收藏。生命的最后几年,他日出而作,日没不息。作画、写字、作诗、刻印,除整理冯建吴诗词稿、篆刻稿、书法稿、谈艺录、谈诗等著作外,还出版冯建吴画选、山水画技法基础等书。
冯建吴深厚的传统动力,以融化进纤巧的神韵之中,作品《黄山猴子观海》《月涌大江流》等是这方面的代表作。诗书画印得心应手,运用自如“长期积累、偶然得之”。他的创作灵感泉涌,为当代中国画坛留下了一大批杰作。

艺术风格

冯建吴的作品,上世纪六十年代以前基本上是纯传统,纯吴昌硕的一派作风。
此后熔铸北朝书风和汉碑、汉简等为一体。创就了雄强、刚健、磅礴、朴茂、遒劲的艺术风格,其画从书出,亦具有深厚的传统功力和浓郁的个性色彩。冯建吴的笔法雄强而有魄力,画中无论勾枝点叶,均以沉雄霸悍的笔法出之,点划似长枪大戟,森然相向,不作描头画脚的小巧技俩,这是有别于一般画家之处,自无愧于大家称号。绘事固是专门,而其书法成就,实出丹青之上。冯建吴的书法兼擅各体,瘦金书尤为人所称道,历来学瘦金者多以道君皇帝为楷则,而太虞更远师薛曜石淙诗,求其本源,故能遒丽秀劲,不同凡响,惜所作不多。篆隶虽受吴昌硕影响,而上搜龟卜吉金之变,下求石门郙阁诸颂,旁及伊墨卿、陈曼生、何子贞诸家,取法古制而新裁别出,师承前修而抒机自运,立身近代书林,亦非俗手。晚年变法,以篆隶之笔作行草,奇崛高古,用笔生辣硬峭,章法纵逸跌宕,洵大手笔。冯建吴亦能诗与刻,其篆刻纯摹吴昌硕六十岁以前体,尚能谨饬,然虚实疏密虽曲尽其妙,终不能掩刻意安排之迹,若较之王个簃粗服乱头,诸乐三清健雄奇,冯建吴篆刻,不过依样葫芦而已。

艺术成就

1926年至1929年在四川美术专校、中华艺术大学、昌明艺专学习,师事王一亭、吴东迈等,成为吴昌硕的再传弟子,颇得吴昌硕画风真传。1930年在成都创办东方美专,历任国画系主任、副校长、任校长,主办美术研究刊物《太阳在东方》。曾聘山水画大师黄宾虹入川讲学,给巴蜀画风注入了一股新鲜空气。二十一岁学成返回四川,组织蓉社、国光书画社。又开办浣花草堂书画社等,举办书画展览。其山水画,在西南负有盛名。新中国成立后,加入成都美协,任陕西《西北画报》编辑。1949年后曾任中学教师,1952年应胞弟石鲁之约赴西安任《西北画报》社美术编辑。1955年调四川美术学院,1956年起于四川美术学校任教授,1987年退休。在十年浩劫中,冯建吴被扣上反动学术权威的帽子,关过“牛棚”,还被剃了阴阳头游街。“文革”结束时,冯建吴年近古稀,全身心投入书画创作和变革之中。他立刻继续他被中断了的书画变革。年老多病的他又全身心地投入到书画创作中。长期教授山水、诗词、书法、篆刻。又任中国书法家协会理事,四川美协理事,成都画院副院长,四川美术学院教授,四川省政协常委。主要作品有《奔腾》、《蜀江春晓》等,曾在国内外多次展出。1979年为联合国中国厅作《峨眉天下秀》巨幅画,为人民大会堂四川厅所绘《峨岭朝晖》获省优秀作品奖。1982年举办个人书画展览。有《冯建吴诗词稿》、《冯建吴篆刻稿》、《冯建吴谈诗》、《冯建吴画集》、《山水书技法基础》、《甲骨文集联》等行世。四川省高教电教中心和四川美院曾联合摄制教学片《老骥出枥,志在万里——访画家冯建吴》,作品《海心亭》、《古银杏》等被中国美术馆收藏。

人物评价

2010年,著名书画家冯建吴诞辰一百周年艺术展在三峡博物馆开展,来自巴蜀的62位知名艺术家也齐聚一堂,举行了纪念冯建吴教授百年诞辰的书画研讨会。
四川大学教授、四川师范大学艺术学院院长林木说:“冯老师承潘天寿又远接吴昌硕,其风范为文人画系统。文人画艺术为综合性艺术,要求画家具诗书画印之全面修养。但随着20世纪西方教育体系全面置换中国系统教育,民族文化退位,在中国画领域视觉性已占绝对主流,文人画之综合性特征亦因此全面退潮,冯老修养全面功力深刻,当为国中翘楚。所以我提议,应当在重庆修建一座冯建吴教授的艺术馆,传承他的艺术修养。”
西南大学教授、重庆现当代美术研究所所长凌承纬说:“早就该为冯老专门举行一个研讨会,现在都有点晚啦。”凌所长表示,应该从一个时代、一个地域的文化艺术发展来认识冯建吴教授和他的艺术。“首先,作为一个艺术家和教育家,他是重庆、四川现代中国画发展的领军人物之一,是重庆、四川现代画教育的奠基者之一;再者,他的艺术不但推动了巴蜀两地现代中国书画艺术的发展,更在于对溶诗、书、画、印于一炉的完整继承和发展。这是中国传统书画艺术阐释东方文化精神,体现内核价值的独特文化建构和形态,却也是当代中国书画艺术在创成方面尤感缺失的地方。”凌所长说。四川大学艺术学院教授、硕士生导师侯开嘉认为:“冯老破体书法的成功,充分体现了他艺术独创性思维。追究其源,应是受了海派艺术家吴昌硕书法创作的启迪。吴昌硕在五六十岁时,曾用了10年时间去探索破体书法,后因不被市场接受而自我放弃。而冯老却慧眼独具,注意到吴昌硕这种被人忽视的破体书法,去师其心而不师其迹,苦心探索,终于取得了破体书法创造的成功,却又表现出与吴昌硕完全不同的面貌,自具个性和独特的艺术风格,其艺术创作思想又与吴昌硕一脉相承。”
重庆市政协书画院专职副院长卢德龙表示:“冯老的书法师出吴门又取法汉魏碑刻,主要是从汉碑化出,并以其鲜明的个性寓于其中,行笔刚韧有劲,结体方言端庄,气韵朴茂古拙。可以说,冯老是我国当代阳刚大气这一路的代表性书家。”
四川大学教授、硕士生导师唐允明表示,冯老是一位严格的老师,他提倡的是苦学钻研。唐教授说:“冯老一直认为文学和书法功底是山水画的基础,而用笔是所谓传统功力的核心元素,所以冯老强调中锋用笔,以写代画,要求画面必须笔笔看得,学生在他的教导下得传统之堂奥。在教学中,他提倡苦学,对学生进行近乎苛刻的技艺训练,在艺术创作上,他要求以全面、深厚的学养为底蕴。”
