Ma Lin, Lin Yizuo, is from Qiantang (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province). Southern Song painter. Ma Shirong's grandson, Ma Yuan's son.
The year of birth and death is unknown. His father Ma Yuan was a painter of Song Guangzong and Song Ningzong dynasties (1190-1224). Ma Lin inherited his family's knowledge of painting. He was good at drawing characters, landscapes, flowers and birds. He was round and vigorous with his brush, and his style was too elegant and graceful. The Ningzong Jiatai Painting Academy (1201-1204) was awarded by Zhao Chang, Empress Gongsheng, Yang Shi and Yang Meizi-zi of Ningzong, each with inscriptions on his father's and son's paintings.
