孙建东，男，祖籍江苏常州，一九五二年四月生于上海，汉族。一九八二年一月毕业于云南艺术学院美术系，留校任教，成为著名画家袁晓岑先生的入室弟子，有大量作品出版、刊登，参展及获奖，曾入选第七届、第八届全国美展等重大展览，并赴法国、日本、美国、德国、加拿大，马来西亚、台湾和香港等国家和地区展出，曾获国际现代名家水墨金奖等大奖，省、市电视台多次为其拍摄了艺术专题片，作品多次被省政府和省人大作为珍贵礼品赠送瑞士、荷兰，意大利、泰国，马来西亚等国和柬埔寨西哈努克亲王，并广为海内外书画爱好者及多家博物馆收藏。 
近年来出版画集、专著多部：《孙建东中国画集》由云南美术出版社出版；主持并完成云南省教委立项的科研课题《袁晓岑艺术传略》并由云南美术出版杜出版；《跨世纪中国美术家艺术成就优选画库孙建东国画作品优选》由中国美术出版总社、人民美术出版社、辽宁美术出版社联合出版。《孙建东人物画专辑》、《孙建东花鸟画专辑》、《孙建东写意走兽专辑》由宁夏人民出版社出版；《孙建东意笔孔雀作品选》明信片由北京市邮政管理局监制发行；《中国画二十家·孙建东》由北京美术摄影出版社出版。 
同时，还获得多种荣誉称号，姓名、简历入列《中国当代书画家名人大辞典》、《世界华人美术名家年鉴》等十多部辞书。1997年获曾宪梓教育基金会高等师范院校教师奖三等奖，1999年获中国文联颁发的“99中国百杰画家”荣誉称号。2000年元月赴台湾参加首届中华少数民族博览会并举办画展。2001年2月被评为云南省德育先进工作者。2001年9月获英国剑桥国际传记中心签发认证的“21世纪成就奖”荣誉证书。2002年2月任云南省教育厅文化教育交流代表团副团长赴美国贝翰文大学访问考察，井多次举办中国画专题学术讲座．2004年3月应法国雷恩市政府和中法文化协会邀请在法国雷恩举办个人画展。 
作品有《孔雀红梅》、《流沙河之歌》、《共同的希望》等。
