王劼音，1941年生于上海。1956年考入浙江美术学院附中。1960年入上海美术专科学校，1966年毕业。曾任上海火柴厂美术设计员。1977年任教于上海市美术学校。1986年在奥地利维也纳造型艺术学院高级版画班、国立维也纳应用艺术大学哈特教授工作室进修。
中国美术家协会会员、中国版画家协会会员，上海版画会会长。1989年受聘任第七届全国美展评委。1996年受聘任上海大学美术学院教授，应邀在新加坡南洋艺术学院讲学半年。2000年成为上海油画雕塑院特聘艺术家。据《田子坊的画家群落》记载：2001年起，在上海田子坊设立王劼音画室至今。
