郭振宇男1969年10月生于诸城市，1991年毕业于诸城市第一中学。1995年毕业于山东艺术学院师范系。现为中国美术家协会会员，中国工艺美术学会纤维艺术委员会常务委员，山东省教育厅艺术教育委员会委员，山东省美术家协会理事。
1998年因工作成绩突出被评为优秀教师
1995年――1999年总结教学实践，打破现行的学院常规教学模式，在艺术教学中探索出了“表现与塑造”教学法，“借机引导”教学法和“自由绘画”教学法，成功地走出了培养创造型人才的新路子，启发了学生的创造性思维，打开了学生智慧的大门。
1999年4月创作大型纤维艺术作品《中华根》。
1999年在中国美术馆组织《生命的编织》大型教学成果展，引起了学术界的强烈关注和共鸣。由山东电视台摄制的、表现他与学生相互关爱、团结协作精神的电视纪录片《生命的编织》，在中央电视台等55家全国电视网及海外播放，收到了良好的社会效果，被定为中国人权对外宣传片。2000年5月在布达佩斯国际电视艺术节上被评为“海外电视艺术传播优秀奖”。
1999年10月参与策划组织了《崇高的事业--山东省残疾人事业十年发展成果展》。
2000年3月，成立了山东省特殊教育专业学校“聋人艺术教育研究室”，对聋人艺术教育进行系统深入研究，为学校教学科研填补了空白。之后成立“聋之艺造型艺术工作室”，为学生作品走向市场，实现教、科、贸相结合奠定了基础。
2000年5月参与策划组织了中国残联主办的“全国残疾人技能大赛”。
2000年10月，参加《从洛桑到北京--2000年国际纤维艺术展暨高层学术研讨会》。
2000年11月组织策划了由山东省文化厅、教育厅、山东省残联主办，在中国美术馆举办的《心之韵》蜡染艺术作品展。
2000年获教育厅“全国德育标兵”提名。
2001年被教育厅评为“文学艺术教育优秀指导教师”。
2001年9月，参与山东工艺美院院长潘鲁生博士主导的聋人艺术教育的项目研究，得到省教育厅的批准和支持，进一步拓展完善特殊教育的办学模式，推动残疾人事业的整体发展。
2002年受邀赴德、法、英、意等欧洲国家交流学习。
2003年在首届“北京国际美术双年展”获中国青年艺术家作品奖。
2004年12月参加中国美协组织的乌鲁木齐丝绸之路风情雕塑展。
2005年5月组织全国残联系统工艺美术教学研讨会。
2005年6月中国艺术研究院研究生院研究生课程结业。
2005年参加德国科隆中国艺术家六人展。
2006年组织山东省第四届职业技能竞赛。
2008年参加北京奥运美术展览，作品被北京奥委会收藏。

2003年9月20日—10月20日，由中国文学艺术界联合会、北京市人民政府、中国美术家协会联合主办的首届“中国北京国际美术双年展”在北京中国美术馆隆重举行。郭振宇创作的雕塑作品《中华根》成为了本次展览的一个亮点，它以粗犷厚重的材料，无可替代的气势打动了在场的观众，是本次国际展览雕塑作品唯一的大奖。
此次“中国北京国际美术双年展”是国际美术双年展举办百余年来首次来到中国。展览着眼于世界文化发展的前沿，既展示世界当今美术发展的面貌，也体现中国民族追求真善美的艺术审美观和文化价值观，其主题是“创新：当代性与地域性”。
中国美术家协会主席靳尚谊当场宣布了评奖结果。此次获奖作品是按国画、油画、雕塑三类画种从参加主题展的400多幅作品中各选出一件，中外美术界7位专家组成的评选委员会经过两天的讨论，最后经过投票表决评选出奖项。郭振宇的雕塑作品《中华根》获得首届“中国北京国际美术双年展”中国青年艺术家作品奖。
《中国文化报》撰文“这是中国美术界的一次大规模的举动，规格最高、规模最大、作品最好，超过了建国以来我国任何一次美术活动，也是我国最大的国际性美术展览，也谕示着含金量最高的一次美术盛会。”中国艺术研究院副院长王镛说：“看到外国评委第一次进美术馆那种惊讶的表情，我们很欣慰。别人还在惊讶、议论的时候，我们的国外策展人桑福已经把自己看中的作品都记在手里的小纸条上，特别认真。”王镛透露，外国评委走到哪儿都觉得很好。评选采用了评委先圈出作品，然后再讨论有争议的作品。源于对中国当代艺术的理解不同，在中国青年艺术家作品奖的评选中，中外评委争论较多，分歧也比较大。尤其是油画部分，评委们对超级写实主义的作品类型和比较粗犷的作品类型争论不下，经过了较长时间的讨论，才最终确定哪些作品胜出。国画部分也是如此，只有雕塑作品《中华根》，大家一致通过。
“《中华根》是用中国传统的麻材料制作的软雕塑，占据了美术馆的一整面壁，人一进展厅，就会被它震撼。这幅作品的材料原始，整个结构却现代感很强。作品中隐约有人体的形象，表现子孙源源不绝，有很强的象征意味。”（人民网评论）它是由郭振宇设计创作，于1999年开始动工，历时四年多，经三次反复修整，耗用青麻3吨多，带领两批聋哑学生制作完成的巨型软雕塑作品。全幅作品高4米，长20米，厚达1.5米。表现了中华民族悠久历史文化、艰苦卓绝的奋斗历程和繁衍发展、凝聚向上的精神。
中央电视台、北京电视台、山东电视台以及北京各大报刊、网站纷纷对此做了采访报道。

2000年11月组织策划在中国美术馆举办的《心之韵》蜡染艺术作品展，连同《无语的心声》《生命的编织》共三次北京展览效果显著，影响巨大，被教育界、美术界专家称为特殊教育发展的“命运三部曲”，“如果说第一次是个偶然，第二次是个奇迹，那么这第三次就是个必然！”（专家语）突现了教育教学的实力，展现了教学成果，推出和验证了艺术教育理念。为美术事业的发展光大做出了贡献。
