沈鹏，1931年9月生，江苏江阴人。幼习诗、书、画，入大学攻读文学，后转攻新闻。现现任全国政协委员、中国文联副主席、中国书法家协会名誉主席、中国美术出版总社顾问以及《中国书画》主编。兼任中国人民对外友好协会理事、中国国际友谊促进会理事、中国艺术教育促进会理事、中华炎黄文化研究会理事、北京大学艺术教育研究顾问、炎黄书画院副院长、中国书画函授大学教授、《书法之友》杂志名誉主席、绍兴文理学院兰亭书法学院名誉院长等职。
书法精行草，兼长隶、楷等多种书体。其书法作品遍及亚、欧、美各大洲，刻于名胜古迹者有杭州、苏州、镇江、上海、南京、济南、郑州、峨眉山、三峡、千山、崂山、贺兰山、海南、北京等地。书法作品已出版《当代书法家精品·沈鹏卷》《沈鹏书法选》《沈鹏书法作品集》（日本）《沈鹏书白居易长恨歌、琵琶行》《沈鹏书杜甫诗二十三首》《沈鹏书归去来辞》《行草书绝妙宋词》《草书千字文》《楷书千字文》《岳阳楼记》等。
2004年10月在北京市劳动人民文化宫举办“沈鹏先生书法艺术近作观摩展”。已出版《当代书法家精品集·沈鹏卷》、沈鹏书法作品精选》等多部。发表论文、散文近百万字，论文《传统与“一画”》获第四届中国文联文艺评论奖一等奖。发表诗词约500首。出版《三馀吟草》、《三馀续吟》、《三馀诗词选》，风格儒雅，意境深邃，格律严谨。主编或责编的书刊500种以上，主编的《中国美术全集·书法篆刻编4 宋金元书法》获中国图书奖荣誉奖。曾多次访问美国、法国、日本、瑞典、前苏联、新加坡、意大利、韩国、马来西亚、加拿大、秘鲁、委内瑞拉、特力尼达和多巴哥等国以及我国港、澳、台地区，获联合国Academy世界和平艺术权威奖，列入多种名人传记与辞书。华夏艺术网已为其开设专栏。
美术评论侧重于中国画、书法及通俗美术，曾为几十种画册及著名书画家个人专集撰写序跋，对中表年诗词创作500首以上，已出版有《沈鹏诗词选》（欧阳中石书写）、《三余吟草》，思路开阔，诗味浓郁。主持和手编的书刊达500种以上，其中有主持编辑出版的大型画册《故宫博物观》（日本同朋舍出版，33册）、大型摄影集《苏联》、《北京》以及小学《写字》课本（12册）等。沈鹏曾担任北京大学、中央美院、首都师大等校博士生论文答辨委员、主席。为中外文化交流、合作出版、讲学以及举办书法展览曾多次访问日本、瑞典、原苏联、新加坡、法国、意大利、美国、韩国、马来西亚以及港、澳、台。多次为残疾人、亚运会、灾区等捐赠大量书法作品。
2009年被中国名人报道网中国书画艺术人才库收录。身为书法家、美术评论家、著名学者和诗人，在中国近现代书法史上占有突出地位，在国内外文艺界享有很高声誉。
其历年创作书法作品多达15000余件，墨迹刻于国内各地名胜古迹和旅游景点，并远传亚、欧、美洲。此外还出版有《沈鹏诗词选》《三余吟草》诗词集，与人一起创办并主编大型杂志《中国书画》《美术之友》《美术向导》。其主编的《中国美术全集·宋金元书法卷》《故宫博物院藏画》等书籍获中国图书荣誉奖。

身为书法家、美术评论家、出版家和诗人，沈鹏先生尤以书法见长，其行草书和隶书“刚柔相济，摇曳多姿”，以气势恢宏、点划精到、格调高逸、韵味深长而富有现代感，成为当今书坛最具代表性的书风典型。他多次率代表团赴日、美、法、意、瑞典、前苏联、新加坡等国进行讲学、展览等文化交流活动，在国内外文艺界享有声誉。

沈鹏书法教学模式的成功
中国国家画院开办沈鹏工作室，于2007年9月招收书法精英班，学制一年，该班集中书法界不同创作流派的一些代表书家和一批年轻的理论家，共同研究当代文化语境下书法创作面临的种种困境，探寻书法传承和书法艺术创作的规律，研讨当代文化语境下的书法人文精神和评判标准。
在沈鹏工作室书法精英班取得教学上的成功之后，2009年9月，中国国家画院沈鹏工作室又开办了学制为两年的书法课题班。学员主要来自各类书法国展中的获奖作者，是当代中青年书法创作队伍的骨干力量，也是目前各类国家级书法展览中最活跃的中青年书法家。
经过3年的教学实践，沈鹏工作室书法精英班和书法课题班的学术理念、教学模式给当代书法的发展带来诸多启示性意义。这种启示主要表现在两个方面：
其一，沈鹏先生从一开始便为精英班确立了以“原创性”为核心的学术主张，并在精英班教学实践的基础上，为书法课题班制定了“宏扬原创、尊重个性、书内书外、艺道并进”的十六字教学方针。沈鹏先生是一位学养丰厚的学者型书法家，在长期的艺术实践中，他以学者的睿智和视野，形成了自成体系的书学理论，其理论的核心是以“原创性”作为书法创作和批评的主要标准，力主在继承传统的基础上，创造出具有时代特征的书法样式，进而形成符合个人精神特质的艺术风格。
其二，沈鹏工作室书法精英班，营造了一个自由、民主、平等、包容的学术气氛，为当代书法的高端教育提供了一条独特有效的教学模式。艺术的持续性演进，最终要归结到艺术教育的科学性，而“科学性”的标准，在于是否符合特殊的艺术创作规律和传承要求。沈鹏工作室书法精英班、课题班的教学重点突出了人文修养的提升和原创精神的培养，其做法是：聘请国内当代人文学科的著名学者、专家，开设专题讲座，开阔学员的文化视野，启发学员站在当代文化的立场，判断书法未来的走向，重新思考、认识书法独特的人文精神内核。同时通过举办“主题书法创作展”和各种形式的学术研讨，让学员打破已有的思维模式和创作习惯，进入创造性的艺术创作状态。
