McEntee was born in Rondout, New York, July 14th, in 1828, little is known about his childhood. From about 1844-1846, he attended the Clinton Institute of Liberal Arts in New York, Clinton.
The United States National Academy of Sciences in the design he exhibited his first painting in 1850 in the city of New York for second years, and his apprentice Frederick Edwin Chch, who is regarded as the art world of the bright younger generation in the United states. The church and the McEntee remain friends for life, although the McEntee has never come into contact with the church's fame and fortune. After learning with the church, McEntee tried to Rondout a businessman in his career, but did not experience great success. Three years later, he gave up his business and to completely let art, become a charter one of Richard Morris Hunter in 1857, residents of Tenth Street studio building [1] [4] due to other tenants of many of the buildings are single or commuter, McEntee and his wife (who is known as a lively, lovely hostess) to some the most famous artists, writers and actors of the era frequented salons spontaneous center. He was an associate professor at the National Academy of design in 1860, and the whole Academy in 1861. In 1869, he visited Europe, painted in Italy. He died in January 27, 1891 of bright's disease and was buried at Montrepose cemetery in Kingstown, New York.
