He was born in London, Ontario, and received his art training from his father from a young age. Later, he studied with William and Judson in the art of wine lees, Pennsylvania college in Thomas Akins. Later, he moved to Paris, France where he received art instruction at the Academy of Fine Arts Paris college in Jean Leon Jerome and Acad Julian in Mie under Jean Joseph Benjamin constant, Henry Duce and Jules Lefebvre.
In 1882, he married isaure dill and had two children with her son (Robert Andre, 1886) and a daughter (Emily Margaret, 1888).
Pierre traveled extensively in Canada and Europe, as a member of the Artists Association of Ontario and the Royal College of Art of canada. he also exhibited at the international exhibition like the Paris salon, where he won a bronze medal in 1890 after his painting bath. He is known for his often naked and his children always melancholy and moody pictures; he is the first Canadian artist to explore the theme of naked. 
He contracted a lung infection and died in his sleep in Paris, France, at the age of 31.
When he was a child, his family was one of the many scenic spots in Van Xianfeng village in London, Ontario.
