《林杪水步图》轴，明，董其昌绘，纸本，墨笔，纵115.8cm，横45.3cm。
图中疏林坡渚，江水平缓，谷壑幽深，山色森郁。题“林杪不可分，水步遥难辨。玄宰画”，钤“宗伯学士”白文方印、“董氏玄宰”白文方印。另钤鉴藏印：“希逸”白文方印、“虚斋审定”白文方印、“庞莱臣珍藏印”朱文长方印、“孙煜峰珍藏印”朱文长方印。右裱边钤“韫辉斋印”白文方印、“暂得于己快然自足”朱文方印。
“林杪不可分，水步遥难辨”之句出自唐大历至贞元年间、南朝谢灵运十世孙僧皎然的五言绝句《望远村》，全诗如下：“林杪不可分，水步遥难辨。一片山翠边，依稀见村远。”（见《全唐诗》卷八二〇）。庞莱臣《虚斋名画续录》卷二著录此图为《董文敏林峦幽秀图》轴。
董其昌笔下的山水晕染多于皴擦，得秀润华滋之态。布局不尚繁琐，简洁爽利，意境清幽雅致，使人观之心旷神怡。

In the picture, Shulin Pozhu, the river level is gentle, the valleys are deep and the mountains are lush. Title "Lin Chao is inseparable, water step is difficult to distinguish. Xuanzai Painting, the Baiwen Square Seal of Jun's "Zongbo Bachelor" and the Baiwen Square Seal of Dong's "Xuanzai". In addition, Junjian Tibetan Seal: Xiyi, Xuzhai, Panglaichen, Sun Yufeng and Sun Yufeng. On the right side, there are "Tao Hui Zhai Seal" in white and "Zhu Wen Seal" in Zhu Wen.
The sentence "Lin Chao is inseparable, water step is difficult to distinguish" comes from the five-word absolute sentence "Telescope Village" written by the monk Jiaoran, Xie Lingyun X of the Southern Dynasty from the Tang Dynasty to the Zhenyuan Dynasty. The whole poem is as follows: "Lin Chao is inseparable, water step is difficult to distinguish. A hill and green edge, vaguely far from the village. (See Volume 82 of Quan Tang Poetry). Pang Leichen's sequel to the Famous Pictures of Xuzhai, Volume 2, catalogues this picture on the axis of Dong Wenmin's Graceful Pictures of Linluan.
Dong Qichang's landscape is more dizzy than chafing, so it is beautiful and moist. The layout is not cumbersome, concise and refreshing, and the artistic conception is quiet and elegant, which makes people relaxed and happy.
