自题：“卅一年秋悲鸿写。”钤“悲鸿”朱文方印。鉴藏印钤“韩槐准所有”朱文椭圆印、“愚趣斋主”白文方印、“吴普航印”白文方印。
卅一年即指民国卅一年（1942年），徐悲鸿时年47岁。
图中“S”形的粗大枫树干上落有两只喜鹊，一只居上，一只在下，似乎正窃窃私语，为萧索的秋日平添了几分温情，也为大自然景观增添了几许浪漫的情调。图中树干的用笔雄健有力，富于方折、顿挫、提按变化，表现出枝干特有的质感。树叶写意生动，以淡墨中锋勾勒轮廓，随后填入橘红、黄、绿、青等各色，丰富的色调点缀出清秋美艳的意境。
此图画在都匀皮纸上。这种皮纸产于贵州都匀，在当时是一种物美价廉的国画用纸，其本身淡淡的黄色令画面显得古雅质朴，其粗糙的表面既吸水又不浸水，便于笔墨的表现。在物资匮乏的抗战时期，徐悲鸿很喜欢用这种界于生熟之间的皮纸作画。

This picture is on Duyun leather paper. This kind of paper was produced in Duyun, Guizhou Province. At that time, it was a kind of cheap and high-quality paper for Chinese painting. Its light yellow color made the picture look elegant and simple. Its rough surface absorbed water and did not immerse in water, which facilitated the performance of pen and ink. Xu Beihong liked to use this kind of paper to draw during the war of resistance, which was short of materials.
